Tampa Firefighter, Cindy Strowbridge, a regular giver to The Way Project, donates her hurricane supplies which included her favorites MnM’s. If you know Cindy, you know that’s big. Lol.

    About Us

Lori is on the left and Tara is on the right.

    Founders

    • Lori was a career Firefighter with the City of Tampa and Tara was an Administrator for a healthcare non-profit organization called CARES. We have both retired from our careers and together we have dedicated ourselves to volunteerism and doing what we can to help improve the lives of others. This is why we started The Way Project, a nonprofit organization. In fact, The Way Project is named after The Camino de Santiago aka The Way of St. James but more on that in the section titled “Our Beginning”

    Our Beginning

    • In 2012 and 2015 Lori walked the 500 mile Christian pilgrimage in Spain called the Camino de Santiago. There she witnessed Spaniards giving away food on fold-up tables to hungry pilgrims, free for anyone passing by.  Years later, when we saw the long lines of people waiting for food in Tampa during the Covid Pandemic of 2020, I remembered what I saw on the Camino and decided to do the same. So we took $50 Lori’s sister-in-law Robin had recently sent us, bought some food and put in on a fold-up table that once belonged to Lori’s mom. The next day when we posted about it on FB,  friends and family started sending money to purchase more food. They still are and we couldn’t be more grateful for the amazing community of people who help us help others.
    • One of the most important aspects of our organization is that Tara and I volunteer with The Way Project so that 100% of donations go to the project we are sponsoring. We remain committed to that for all future endeavors.

    Our Mission

    • Our mission is simple:  Build a community of helpers who help to restore HOPE in the hearts of others through Acts of LOVE.
    • Our current Project is The Blessing Box. Since September 2020, we’ve been giving away food to our neighbors with the help of donations from friends and family. Our favorite donations are fresh fruits/vegi’s but those tend to be hard to keep, so we primarily focus on non-perishables.  We also take cash donations, which we always always use 100% of for the purchase of food. Our long term goal is to plant more Blessing Boxes around the country. See our  ”Ways to Help” section for more Information.
    • In the past, we have been a part of Hyde Park United Methodist’s luggage drive to give to foster kids. We have collected Christmas toys to give to organzations who distribute them to foster kids. We have stocked Little Libraries with food in Bullhead City, Arizona as well as the Blessing Box at The Heart of Longmont Methodist Church. Since retirement, Lori has volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations, such as The Portico Cafe, All Hands and Hearts, Feeding Tampa Bay, Daystar and Trinity Cafe. Simply, when we see a need, we do everything we can to fill it.
